INTRODUCTION:

FRANK PHOS FZ-10 is a liquid chemical which produces micro crystalline coating at ambient temperature a corrosion resistant, paints Bonding, zinc phosphate coating on iron and steel surfaces. The coating is chemically bonded to the metal Surface and it prevents rust creep under the paint film if the film suffers any local damage. FRANK PHOS FZ-10 will be of advantage where the cost of fuel or shortage of power is a constrain to normal Hot dip phosphating.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS:
BATH MAKE UP:
For each 1000 Litres of bath, add to the water in sequence with stirring (5 – 6 hours to have homogeneous solution)
FRANK PHOS FZ10 :30 Litres
Frank Tone ( 25% Solution) :1.5 to 2.0 litres
Sodium Hydroxide solution (25% Solution) :6 Litres

NOTE:
FRANK TONE solution is prepared in the plant by dissolving 250 gms of FRANK TONE crystals per litre of water. SODIUM HYDROXIDE SOLUTION is prepared by dissolving 250 grams of Sodium Hydroxide per litre of water

CONTROL POINTS:
Pointage : 12 to 25
pH : 03 - 05
Starch Iodide paper : Blue to Blue-Black
FRANK TONE Titration : 2 to 6
Temerature : Room temperature (25 deg C to 30 deg C)
Spray times : 1 ½ to 2 minutes
Pressure : 8 – 12 Lbs / sq inch

REPLENISHMENT:
Add 28 mls of 25% FRANK TONE per 100 litres bath to raise the FRANK TONE titre value by one.

PROCESS SEQUENCE:
Stage No 1 –Surface preparation ( Precleaning - Degreasing, Rinsing, Derusting)
Stage No 2 –Rinsing
Stage No 3 – Spray by Frank Phos FZ 10 solution
Stage No 4 – Rinsing
Stage No 5 – Hot acidulated rinse with FRANK BOND, if required
Stage No 6 - Drying

SURFACE PREPARATION FOR FRANKPHOS FZ-10 TREATMENT:
This includes both degreasing and derusting ( also descaling) operations for degreasing any of the following methods can be used:

1. Trichloroethylene or hot Alkali cleaning with FRANK MOVE FG-3 ( requires a water rinse)
2. Descaling in either Hydrochloric acid 1:1 solution at room temperature or Sulphuric acid 10-20% Solution at 60-65°C or in FRANK DINES. The work is to be rinsed in water after derusting / descaling.

Bath Maintenance
Frank Phos FZ 10 bath is checked for Free Acid and Total Acid

FREE ACID
1. Pipette 10 ml of bath solution into 200ml conical flask
2. Add a few drops of Bromo Phenol Blue indicator
3. The end point is the color changes from yellow Green to Blue
4. FA must be maintained between 1.2 – 1.5ml
5. Initial bath gives the free acidity between 3.5 – 4.5ml. This free acidity is adjusted to 0.8 to 1.2 ml using Sodium Hydroxide Solution

TOTAL ACID
In the same way titre 10ml of bath solution, using phenolphthalene indicator color change us from colorless to pink

Initial bath pointage is 22 – 24 ie.
Operating Pointage 15 – 18 ml

10 ml bath solution is titrated against 0.1 N NaOH using bromophenol blue as indicator. The colour change is from yellow green to blue. The end point indicates the free acidity value.

10 ml bath solution is titrated against 0.1 N NaOH using phenolphthalein as indicator. The colour change is from colourless to violet pink. The end point indicates the Total acidity value. Initial pointage is 22 – 24ml. Working bath pointage is maintained between 15 – 18 ml.

FRANK TONE content is checked by using Starch Iodide Paper. Acidified starch iodide paper is dipped in bath solution. The paper turns blue. Blue colour indicates the presence of accelerator. Accelerator content is to be checked after each load processing and replenished by adding accelerator solution for satisfactory coating.

REPLENISHMENT
For every point 1.35 ltrs Frank Phos FZ 10 to be added for 1000 ltrs bath.

TANK MATERIAL CONSTRUCTION: Mild Steel tank with perforated M.S. Platform approx 300mm above the bottom of the tank to rest the basket / components is preferred

HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

Frank Phos FZ 10 is slightly acid and clothing should be protected if there is any possibility of continuous or frequent splashing with the solution. Wash off any splashed on the skin at once with cold water. If the solution gets in the eyes wash out with liberal quantities or water and obtain immediate medical attention
