FRANK 495 has a lower melting point than FRANK 540 and can, therefore, be used at a lower temperature of both quenching and tempering of high-speed tools steels. FRANK 495 alone is used for making up the initial melt and for maintaining the correct bath level. The bottom of the pot should be dredged daily to remove sludge. The salt absorbs moisture readily so the top plate of the furnace should be kept free from salt from salt drips.
